Review:
The Graveyard Queen is one of those series that get better with every published volume. The Abandoned was a teaser, The Restorer was good, The Kingdom had me fully hooked and THE PROPHET is still better!
While it has clearly the feel of a first trilogy in a series coming to an end with many sub-arcs of the plot finally finding conclusions, it leaves enough room and unresolved arcs and cliff-hangers to lure you into the next cycle.

In THE PROPHET Amelia Grey returns to Charleston with the firm resolution to stick to those rules that used to protect her so well. But instead of finding peace she gets approached by the (all too living) ghost of a dead cop that wants his murder solved- and Devlin's ghosts are back to haunting her, too. No matter how much Amelia wishes to be left alone, running isn't an option any longer and she will have to put her life on the line in order to get it back.
Both the murder investigation and the mystery surrounding Devlin's ghosts drive her deep into the darker parts of Charleston where black magic, root doctors and witchcraft rule and everything you demand comes with a price attached.

Once again Stevens managed to raise the creep factor! Amelia's delve into the darker parts of Charleston folklore is less scary on the ghost side but she finds herself questioning her own mind: what is real and what is only make-believe, and the fact that everything desired comes with a price attached doesn't make deciding any easier. The bargain she strikes in the last chapter of The Prophet sounds like the kind of deal that will come haunt her when she least expects it and has you wondering if having Devil is really worth it.
The creepiest part however is Amelia's journey behind the veil and the woman she meets there. I sure don't want to walk in Amelia's shoes right now.

Stevens has already announced that she signed a contract for another three books in this series and three books in a new YA series, and I sure can't wait to get my hands on either!
